A significant amount of research has been conducted on NSA Care from which we derive Life SOURCE work and its beneficial effects on people ranging from improvements in physical states to improvements in quality of life. The research supports what we already know to be true, that NSA Care can help you "empower your body, mind and spirit."

Below is a sampling of some research in the field of NSA Care.

1) A Retrospective Assessment of Network Care Using A Survey Of Health, Wellness, And Quality of Life.
A study conducted within the Department of Anatomy and Neurobiology at the University of California Irvine School of Medicine evaluated a population of over 2800 recipients of NSA care. This review represents the largest study to date assessing such a wide range of health and wellness benefits of any population. The following categories, with examples from each section, all showed clinically significant benefits:

1. Improved Physical State relative to: less physical pain, less tension or stiffness of the spine, improved allergies, eczema, and skin rashes, fewer incidences of colds and flu, fewer headaches, less menstrual discomfort.

2. Improved Mental/Emotional State: improved positive feelings about oneself, less moodiness, angry outbursts and depression, more interest in life, improved ability to think and concentrate, less anxiety and concern about vague fears, improved ability to stay on task.

3. Improved Response to Stress: Less stress relative to: family, significant relationship, health, finances, daily problems, work, general well being.

4. Improved Life Enjoyment relative to: openness to guidance by ones inner voice or feelings, experience of relaxation and well being, positive feelings about oneself, interest in maintaining a healthy lifestyle, compassion for and acceptance of others incidence of feelings of joy or happiness.

5. Improved quality of Life relative to: personal life, extent one adapts to change, handling of problems in life, actual life accomplishments, life as a whole, overall contentment with life, significant other, job, romantic life, actual work done, Co-workers.

2) A Longitudinal Study of NSA Care
A longitudinal study of NSA care has been conducted at the University of California Irvine School of Medicine to follow up findings derived from a retrospective characterization (summarized above) of NSA care.

Positive benefits are also reported in the longitudinal study involving approximately 800 recipients of NSA care. It was demonstrated in both the retrospective and the recently completed longitudinal study that benefits of NSA care continue to accrue over time with no indication of a maximum clinical benefit or ceiling affect.

3) Changes in Digital Skin Temperature, Surface Electromyography, and Electrodermal Activity in Subjects Receiving Network Spinal Analysis.
A study by Miller and Eedman evaluated changes in subjects receiving NSA care. The NSA group demonstrated a significant decline in electrodermal activity and constancy of sEMG activity compared to controls, thus prompting the authors to propose that a sympathetic quieting effect occurred during the clinical application of NSA.

These authors also suggested that these findings were consistent with the self-reported improvements in mental/emotional state and stress reduction in patients receiving NSA care in the retrospective study

4) Functional Magnetic Imaging:
A functional MRI (brain scan) in a pilot study of only one person suggested an extremely significant increase in brain efficiency via change in blood flow to the cerebral cortex (the thinking brain). This study was sufficient to have a grant awarded to a medical college for further study of the potential enhanced brain function in NSA Care.

5) Chaotic Modeling in Network Spinal Analysis
The actual neurophysiological processes that take place in those persons receiving NSA care are being studied. These studies are being conducted within the Department of Electrical Engineering-systems at the University of Southern California.

It is visually apparent that a unique set of muscular contractions patterns are associated with the somatopsychic wave. As a result, this neurophysiological phenomenon initiated through the clinical application of NSA was chosen for investigation. Current investigation has provided evidence that the somatopsychic wave characteristic of NSA care is not only non-linear but dynamicl as well. The somatopsychic wave represents a consistent readily repeatable model for non-linear mathematical modeling and shows increased organization with increased levels of NSA care.

6) Numerous other studies have been published demonstrating the positive effects of NSA care including:

Case Study: Successful in vitro fertilization in a poor responder while under NSA care - a case report

Reduction of Psoriasis in a patient under NSA care - a case report

Dynamic modeling of spinal electromyography activity during various condition

A study demonstrating reorganization below the lesion site in a quadriplegic patient.

Nonlinear switching dynamics in surface electromyography of the spine

7) News from The Research Director: Ralph Boone Ph.D, D.C.
I am pleased to have been appointed Research Director for the association of Network Care Research (ANCR), effective June 2002. As some of you may know, I have been working with Doctor Epstein since 1993 after personally discovering the benefits of Network Care. That discovery led me to take an active role in supporting Dr Epstein's vision of a sophisticated research program to study the wellness phenomena associated with Network Care.

Dr. Epstein recognized in the early 90's that starting a research program where none previously existed would be a formidable task. Time and patience would be the rule of the day. Each study would require extensive planning, data collection, analysis and eventually publication. Attracting qualified researchers and funding to support the research would, from the inception of the program and into the future, be tantamount to its success. To date the research program has directly resulted in or contributed to the following:

· Development of an evidence based document describing the theoretical basis and Clinical application of Network Spinal Analysis (NSA)

· A published descriptive paper of NSA by Dr. Epstein.

· A published retrospective study of over 2800 recipients of Network Chiropractic.

· Development of a health, wellness, and quality of life survey that can be used in any discipline

· Based on research findings, the introduction by Dr. Epstein of Levels Of Care.

· A completed longitudinal study of recipients of NSA receiving levels of care (currently undergoing data analysis)

· A manuscript dealing with a theoretical framework linking wellness, Health Lifestyles and Network Spinal Analysis Lifestyles, and complementary and alternative medicine (accepted for publication In the journal of Alternative and complementary Medicine [JACA] pending Editorial changes).

· A manuscript describing an empirical application of a theoretical framework linking use of NSA, the practice of healthy lifestyles, and self-reported health and wellness based on the retrospective study data (under review by JACA).

· A published paper describing the statistical non-linear mathematics utilized in developing a dynamical model of the somatopsychic wave.

· A continuing research effort to elucidate the dependence of changes in the somatopsychic wave relative to the Levels of Care.

· Presentation of the mathematics of non-linear modeling of the somatopsychic wave in a course titled Chaotic Systems taught on the campus of the University of Southern California, as well as a paper on dynamic modeling, using the surface Electromyography wave analysis data (SEMG), was presented at a conference at The USC campus titled dynamical systems. The conference was funded by grants from the National Science Foundation and the University of Southern California.

·The first international NSA scientific conference in Italy.

· Development of an evolving model and detailed description of NSA based strictly on research findings of Ralph Boone Ph.D, D.C.
